In short, when genetically modified food is fed to animals – like chickens and cows, there is no disturbance to their health or nutrition. This study from Alison Van Eenennaam, Animal Genomics and Biotechnology Cooperative Extension Specialist at UC Davis, explains this topic further:

“Results have revealed no significant differences in the nutritional value of feedstuffs derived from commercially grown genetically engineered crops compared with their conventional counterparts, nor have any peer-reviewed studies documented alterations in feed intake, growth or other livestock production parameters as a result of including currently available genetically engineered feedstuffs in diets of animals (for a comprehensive review, see Flachowsky et al. 2005). The published literature also contains no indication of any disturbance to food animal health or the quality of resulting animal products as a result of long-term consumption of genetically engineered feeds.”

Further, when animals digest GM crops, the DNA proteins encoded in these GM products have not been detected in the animal’s milk, meat or other products that humans consume. Learn further about animal consumption of GM foods and the processes involved from start to human consumption in this answer by Alison Van Eenennaam.
