Denneal Jamison-McClung, Associate Director of the University of California Davis Biotechnology program, states that “from their introduction in 1996 until now, scientists have found, through repeated and extensive testing, that GM foods are no more risky than comparable non-GM foods, nor do they differ in nutritional value.” Read her full response here, where she further explains the breeding techniques of GM plants and this food-safety focus.

Scientific authorities around the world have analyzed thousands of studies and concluded that GM food crops do not post any more risks to people, animals or the environment than any other foods. Every leading health organization in the world stands behind the safety of GMOs.

According to the World Health Organization, “GM foods currently available on the international market have passed safety assessments and are not likely to present risks for human health.”

Scott Kohne, NAFTA Market Acceptance Manager, Seeds Unit, Bayer, states in this answer, “An overwhelming number of worldwide experts, including World Health Organization (WHO), American Dietetic Association and European Commission, agree that GMOs are safe for human consumption. In advance of a GMO product being commercialized, the innovation provider voluntarily submits to the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) a dossier of compiled studies to be evaluated to determine the safety of the product as a food or food ingredient for consumers in the U.S. marketplace.”
