“Heirloom” plants, particularly fruits and vegetables, are varieties that were developed in the first half of the 20th century. There is strong interest in heirloom seeds today, and many stores, catalogs and websites sell them. Far from being eliminated, the heirloom-seed world is growing, especially among home gardeners and commercial farmers who sell to specialty stores and farmers’ markets.
