It certainly doesn’t look like it cost millions to create.
“They’re not the prettiest looking apples this year — but it’s what happens inside that’s important,” says Neal Carter, president of Okanagan Specialty Fruits (OSF), over the phone from Summerland, B.C.
“They don’t go brown or bruise.”
Sounds like a metaphor.
But Carter isn’t being literary or coy. This fruit, created by OSF, a tiny, Canadian company, is the world’s first genetically engineered, non-browning apple.
Whether sliced or slammed with force against a table, its flesh remains “pristine” white and blemish free.
