Yossi Shapiro, Ph.D.

Former Breeding Director, Large Seed/Root & Bulb Crops, Monsanto Company

Expert Bio

I received my BS from Cornell University, College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, in 1984, and returned to Cornell in 1988, after managing a fruit orchard in Israel, to earn a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding in 1993. Following that, I worked as a tomato breeder in Florida, for NT Gargiulo/BHN Research, which was acquired by Monsanto in 1997, and I have worked for Monsanto ever since then. I spent thirteen years in management of Monsanto’s Cotton and Wheat R&D programs, ten years of that in Missouri and three years in India. In August 2011, I transferred to Vegetable R&D in my current role, and relocated to Northern California. I feel privileged to work in the application of science and technology to improve the quality and productivity of agricultural products for food, feed and fiber.
