Expert Bio

In his role as Global Regulatory Manager for Research for Bayer, Dean Bushey was responsible for evaluating the safety and regulatory issues around new technology and new genes for use in Bayer’s seeds discovery programs.

Dean began his career in 1977 as a synthetic organic chemist in insecticide discovery for Union Carbide Ag Company (which was eventually bought by Rhone Poulenc). He then worked for Aventis (which was eventually bought by Bayer). Dean’s professional experience includes the areas of chemistry, biochemistry, insect molecular biology, water analysis, technology transfer, plant made pharmaceuticals, and regulatory.

After growing up on an apple and cherry farm near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Dean earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of South Carolina. He completed his postdoc at MIT and was visiting scientist at the Cornell Biotechnology Institute, Cornell University.
