Dr. Bruce Maseko (commonly referred to as Bongani) is currently serving as Acting Chief Executive Officer and Project Manager at AfricaBio. He is responsible for the overall management of outreach, communication and capacity building initiatives designed to promote safe and responsible use of biotechnology in South Africa and other African countries.

He is a Plant Pathologist and holds a PhD degree from the University of Pretoria, Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI), MSc degree in Microbiology from the University of the Free State and BSc (Hons) and BSc degree (Botany, Biochemistry and Microbiology) from the University of Zululand. His other qualifications include Programme in Business Management from UNISA and a certificate course in the Managing Public Policy from the WITS Graduate School of Public and Development.

He was previously the Deputy Director: Africa Cooperation at the Department of Science and Technology (DST). He was responsible for the management of strategic bilateral (West and North Africa) and multilateral the science and technology cooperation (African Union and NEPAD flagship projects). Dr. Maseko also worked as the Marketing Manager at Inqaba Biotechnical Industries and was responsible for sales and marketing of genomic products and services in South Africa and in several African countries.

Dr. Maseko is very passionate about building South Africa's bio-economy through the development of strategic public and private partnerships.
