Question

Is this site sponsored by Monsanto? Im not sure if GMO food cause cancer or not,and Ive tried my best to avoid all GMO food. I accidentally found a forum where people discussed about GMO food last year. One comment wrote that his sister worked in Monsanto, and she didnt buy any GMO food. Most important, Monsanto was from France where was not allowed doing business there. So, you make your decision.

Thanks for your question. You have brought up a lot of ideas, so I will try to address each one individually.

  •        Site sponsorship: Monsanto is one of six sponsors for GMOAnswers.  The other sponsors are BASF, Bayer, Dow, DuPont and Syngenta.  You can find information about the site and how it works here: About GMO Answers.  You can also read this answer: Who funds this website?

  •        GM Food Safety:  The health and safety of GM foods and GM crops have been validated by many independent scientists and organizations around the world. In addition, this is discussed in another question, Do GMOs cause cancer, and Dr. Kevin Folta points out that “there is absolutely zero reputable evidence that GMO foods cause cancer.”

  •        Consumer Choice:  I work at Monsanto, and I’m not aware of any employee who avoids GM food.  I am sure we have employees who avoid certain foods for allergy reasons, but those would not be related to a food being made from GM ingredients.  In fact, we often feature GM ingredients in our cafeteria food items and in farmer markets held on campus.  For greater detail of these examples, please review my colleague’s response here: Monsanto’s Cafeteria.

  •        France:  The original Monsanto Company was founded in 1901 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.  Since 2002 we have been a 100 percent agricultural company.  We do have 9 locations in France.  You can learn more about our company and products here:  Discover.Monsanto.com
