Cannon Michael is the President of Bowles Farming Company, Inc. a diversified family farming operation located near Los Banos, California. He is the 6th generation of his family to be involved with the business and lives on the farm with his wife and three sons. Prior to returning to the farm in 1998, Michael worked in commercial real estate in Atlanta, Georgia in both sales and development of industrial properties.

Michael oversees the farming operation and is involved in many agricultural industry and water related associations and boards. He serves as a director on the San Luis Canal Company board of directors and is also a trustee on the Henry Miller Reclamation District board. He has been appointed by Governor Brown to the Merced County designated local authority, a governing board responsible for winding down the affairs of dissolved local redevelopment agencies in Merced and Los Banos.

Michael holds a degree in English from the University of California at Berkeley and is a graduate of the California Agricultural Leadership Program.

Q: I know few friends who produce Bt Cotton without using chemical fertilizers and pesticides.Why this can not be called Organic Cotton? Why Organic food excludes GM Crop?

A: Well, this is a really good question and does make one wonder. The short answer is: "To meet the USDA organic regulations, farmers and processors must show they aren’t using GMOs and that they are protecting their products from contact with prohibited substances from farm to table."
