I am an Animal Nutritionist, and I’ve spent more than 30 years focused on research to improve the efficiency of agriculture. At Monsanto, I communicate regularly with all audiences, including university scientists, regulatory scientists and consumers, about food safety topics.

A: You can find a list of hundreds of studies available online through the independent GENERA database atwww.biofortified.org/genera/guide/. To answer your specific question, though, I’ve pulled fifteen publications from 2012 to 2013 related to food safety that contain, as best as I can identify, studies that were conducted by independent, third-party researchers. Panda et al. did have samples provided by the biotech industry. The list is below, including a link for each paper. (Please note: the... Continue Reading

A: You won’t find one if you are talking about a randomized, blind, controlled clinical study with human subjects to establish the safety of GM crops. This model is not used to establish food safety. There are several studies of nutritionally altered GM crops with expected biological effect. These were paid for by Monsanto, and I will talk below about why these were conducted. In general, a question on human studies was answered on this site previously, but please allow me to explain the... Continue Reading

A: Independent university researchers are always doing research on our products and evaluating published studies by publishing review articles. From 2001 to 2010, more than 50 studies were conducted in Europe alone, funded by the European Commission (at a cost of >200 million euros) and performed by more than 400 research groups. These studies are summarized in "A Decade of EU-Funded GMO Research." Additionally, hundreds of independent studies can be found on the Biofortified... Continue Reading
Q: Where are the results from the studies that have proven that GMOs are safe? When can we see them and have them evaluated by our own scientists? From what I understand, Monsanto is responsible for testing them and for having their studies verified...

A: There are hundreds of publicly available independent and industry studies that have been performed on GMOs and have confirmed their safety. We have been active in publishing study results and we encourage our employees to do so. These studies have been published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, as well as presented in scientific forums as individual papers or as the entire symposium. The topics of these studies include agronomic performance, crop composition,... Continue Reading
