Denneal Jamison-McClung, Associate Director of the University of California, Davis Biotechnology program, states that “from their introduction in 1996 until now, scientists have found, through repeated and extensive testing, that GM foods are no more risky than comparable non-GM foods, nor do they differ in nutritional value.” Read her full response here.

In this response by Neva Cochran, MS, RDN, LD, FAND, Nutrition Communications Consultant, she explains that whether food is produced through organic, conventional or bioengineered agriculture it is all equally nutritious and healthy.

“The U.S. Department of Agriculture strictly regulates all methods of farming, so foods produced are safe to eat and nutrient-rich… While organic crops are often promoted as being nutritionally superior to conventional or GMO, there is little evidence to support this claim. In fact, numerous studies (references linked below) have found no significant nutritional advantage of organic over conventionally grown foods.”

Further, Connie Diekman, Med, RD, D, FADA, explains the effects of GMOs on the human body in one of her responses to a similar question. Read the full response.

“First, the Food and Drug Administration has set forth guidelines related to the use of GMOs, and in those documents they reference the science that indicates food developed through biotechnology are digested in the same manner as other foods and therefore provide the same nutrition, or in some cases more nutrition (if the goal of the biotechnology was to enhance nutrient content).”
